SCBB is reporting a shortage of blood supply for the summer months. Blood drives account for 60 percent of the blood collected to help meet the needs of our hospitals and patients, according to SCBB’s website. Especially during the summer months in Florida with the threat of tropical storms and hurricanes, it is important for the blood banks to have a hearty supply. Please consider donating, if you are willing and able.
A few things to know before you donate blood, according to SCBB:
- You must be at least 17 years old
- You must weigh at least 110 pounds
- Review SCBB’s website for any other health conditions or medications that may prevent you from donating blood
- Be sure to wait 8 weeks between your blood donations
