Celebrating Nurses Week and the USF STEM Summit

In celebration of Nurses week, Take Care Private Duty Home Health Care highlights two of our very own nurses: Penny Billings, RN, OCN, and Alicia Uelmen, RN, for their continued commitment and dedication to nursing. They have both generously volunteered their time and effort to lead a workshop to promote careers in health care to more than 200 middle school young women in Sarasota, Florida.

On Saturday, May 14th at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus, Penny and Alicia will share with these young women their own personal backgrounds (how they arrived at their careers in nursing) and also lead some hands-on activities so these young women may better understand the effects of aging and how it can provide them opportunities in their future career growth.

Women historically have been underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers. The purpose of this free event is to expose our community’s young women to opportunities out there. The daylong workshop begins at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. It is a free event for middle school women. Lunch will be provided.

They will be a part of multiple hands-on projects, with a parent workshop at the end of the summit. Registration is required to attend. For more information, contact Julie Going at 941.376.6556. To register a middle school woman for the Girls S.T.E.M. Summit go to http://www.sarasota.usf.edu/stem/ to follow the instructions. The sponsors of the event are: the Mary E. Parker Foundation, Dart Foundation, and Raytheon.
