Sue's Story

Our founder Susanne S. Wise, RN, MBA, discovered her passion for nursing at a young age. She was originally inspired by her mother who worked with disabled children as a registered nurse. Sue also credits her“whatever it takes” work ethic to her father, a farmer from Michigan who instilled the passion Sue pours into the company, seven days a week - just like he did by choice at his farm.

Growing up two rambunctious, energetic brothers were always at Sue's feet, alongside a big sister with the biggest heart. Tragically, the family lost Sue's father and two brothers in an airplane crash shortly after she finished nursing school. As Sue returned home to cope and support the family, she found her path forward thanks to a strong foundation of values focused on family and community. The love, labor, and dedication her father gave to his farm and her mother’s sincere empathy and commitment to patients made Sue who she is today – as a business owner, wife, mother, grandmother, and community leader. That grace and grit instilled in our founder also makes Take Care the company it is today.

Sue’s business acumen, compassion as a nurse herself, and commitment to providing the best care possible for each of Take Care’s clients have led to the company’s success and positive impact on its clients' lives, their family members, and our community.

When she founded Take Care Private Duty Home HealthCare in 1995, Sue never expected Take Care to become a family business. However, as the company grew to meet the community’s needs, her daughters Courtney and Erika earned their own specialized degrees and experience so they were prepared to come on board when the company was seeking their talents. When a need for care coordination was recognized, Courtney was prepared and qualified to launch geriatric care management services in 2008. That next year, Erika formally joined the leadership team to help educate the public about how the agency’s services could help their families.

Sue, Courtney, Erika, and the entire Take Care team care deeply about each individual's health and well-being. That’s the guiding light for their family - and their family business built on a foundation of integrity and compassion.
